“An Ode to the Artists”

The Kinnera, one of the oldest surviving string instruments, traces its roots back to the 4th century AD in the Deccan Plateau. Today, it stands on the edge of fading into silence, with only a handful of practitioners keeping its legacy alive.

Crafted entirely from organic materials, the instrument features resonators made from sun-dried, hollowed bottle gourds – each element echoing the simplicity and depth of its origins.

This painting pays tribute to Darshanam Mogulaiah, the last known artist mastering the rare 12-step Kinnera – an art form that very few have learned, and even fewer continue to carry forward.

In a world rushing ahead, this is a moment of stillness…a reminder of the traditions quietly holding on.

Here’s hoping this timeless legacy finds its way into the hands of future generations 🌈
