The instrument depicted in this painting is the Gosem – a traditional wind instrument of the Kuki-Chin tribe. Crafted from a hollow gourd, it holds within it bamboo tubes of varying lengths, each contributing to a melody that feels both raw and rooted.

Beyond its form, the Gosem carries stories of forests, of community, of rhythms passed down through generations. It is a reminder of how deeply music is woven into identity.

Today, a few passionate souls are coming together to revive these fading traditions – preserving not just instruments, but the dances, songs, and spirit of the North-East. Their efforts echo a quiet yet powerful truth: art may evolve, but its roots deserve to be remembered.
